Islamic finance

Our Islamic Finance team has a detailed understanding of the conventional and Shari’a principles governing Islamic finance and financing techniques.

This expertise is complemented by our conventional banking capital markets, asset and project finance, funds and regulatory experience to resolve the complexities involved in structuring transactions and products that meet both Shari’a and conventional banking requirements as well as all applicable regulatory requirements.

We have extensive experience of working closely with Shari’a committees and leading scholars. This is essential to the process of structuring transactions and procedures that comply with the Shari’a.

Our Islamic Finance team represent both Islamic and non-Islamic banks and financial institutions in relation to the full spectrum of commercial Islamic finance products. Our client base includes a number of major Islamic banks and financial institutions both internationally and in the UK market.

The transactions on which we have acted include shipping finance, aviation finance, general asset finance, real estate finance, trade finance, receivables purchases using Ijara structures, credit sale agreements and project and infrastructure finance. Together with our market-leading tax practice, we also advise on alternative finance arrangements.

We provide regulatory advice to Islamic banks and financial institutions and have guided them successfully through the complexities associated with compliance.
